WEBINAR: Partnering with a Library to Launch a Library Telescope Program

PRESENTERS:

Terry Menz, Riverbend Astronomy Club, Illinois

MODERATORS:
Don Ficken, St. Louis Astronomical Society, Astronomical Society of Eastern Missouri
Tom Lynch, Amateur Observers’ Society of New York

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
Explore the Solar System in new ways with these activities.  Make a Pocket Solar System to demonstrate the relative distances between the planets.  Count how many Jupiters it takes to cross the Sun and how many Earths are needed to cross the width of Jupiter.  Why don’t we see all the planets every night?  Where in the world are they?  Why do we always see the same side of the Moon?  Resources for these and other activities will be shared with the audience.

Our Goal

The Library Telescope Program fosters scientific literacy, stimulates interest in astronomy, and offers the awe and excitement of exploring the night sky to those who may have never looked through a telescope.
